2/29/2000-Latest bits about Yin Yu Me Men.
*In the serie, everyone, including Vicki, Alec and Leo will be wearing "western" clothings except for Ruby who will go with the more traditional Xi Pao (old fashion sort of gown). The story takes place in the year 1936, in Shang Hai. According to Vicki, her role is a woman who, seems arrogant and overconfident on the outside, but inside, she is a scared woman with a low self-esteem. She was afraid of rejection and so, was afraid to admit her love to Shu Hen(played by Leo).

The first paragraph talks about all the beautiful eyes that actresses has...they gave a few examples...like Liu Louying, Huang Shaoqi, Liu Xuehua etc ... Anyhow, the paragraph comments that all these actresses have eloquent eyes and that Wu Ah Ge, Su Yupeng is only mesmerized by Xiao Yanzi, Zhao Wei's...and that when he heard that Vicki has a boyfriend, he was very sad for a period of time (I know! Old news...kill the reporter, don't kill moi!)
The second paragraph then went on to say that it is difficult not to like/love Vicki as she is vivacious, intelligent, considerate and that when they filmed HZGG, the close proximity caused Su Yupeng to fall for her. When his friends (people who know him) found out that he likes Vicki, they teased him -- why? -- coz this is the first time, he actually liked someone younger than him -- evidently his first girlfriend was older than him by a couple of months...grin! :>
The third paragraph talks about Su Yupeng admitting that he likes Xiao Yanzi. His manager also confirmed that. She said that during the filming of HZGG, Yupeng did not know that Zhao Wei had a boyfriend (dear beloved Vincent -- wicked grin!) and that Alec always called Taiwan and asked that things to be sent over like CD, fashion magazines and that there should also be two sets of each. The manager also continued that she thought that Yupeng wanted to give them to Qiong Yao or to the crew...it was only when she (the manger) went over to Mainland China for a visit and accidentally went into Zhao Wei's room that she found the other set of stuff all in her room (laughing...ain't that romantic?)
As for all the crew personnel who worked with Zhao Wei...these are their comments: "Very few males can escape the magnetism of Zhao Wei's eloquent eyes. (Actually, they said that her eyes give out electrical sparks -- someone should think of converting that into a generator and perhaps we could help save part of the world's resources -- screaming with laughter -- o.k. come on...give me a break! I am entitled to my wonderful comments...giggling...oooh! I am so witty...o.k. back to translating)...Anyhow, they said that Zhao Wei is a very warm-hearted and enthusiastic person. Since she knows Beijing pretty well, whenever there is a lull in filming, she will happily show everyone around. Added on to that, she always ask her mum to make desserts for everyone to eat (she is very sweet! :>) And when Yupeng and Zhao Wei filmed OHHJ, it was then that Yupeng saw Ye Meng Qing (dear beloved Vincent) coming everyday to bring Zhao Wei to and fro from work. That was when everyone said that Yupeng has been "jilted" (like as in disappointed in love)...poor thing... :<
O.K. The next paragraph talks about other female stars who are very feminine, eloquent eyes...yada yada,...not interested...so I refuse to translate...grin! :>
Last paragraph talks about how Liu Xuehua is capable of crying at the drop of a pin...yada yada...

Cathy's translation of Xin Yao(author of HZGG)'s letters...which is posted in chinese at Http://to www.crown.com.tw/peral/peral.htm. (THANKS FOR TELLING ME!!)
The first letter is from date: 09 June 99
She(Xin Yao) wrote:
Dear everyone?.,
I came very often to here to read the message from all of you. Because I'm too busy, I didn't have time to write message to you. But, I'm very touched that all of you love HZGG so much.
No matter which actor or actress that you like specifically, they are all the proud of HZGG and they are all auntie's favourites, I like them all very much. HZGG is a group performance, it won't be as good as it is if we exclude one of them. So I'd like to ask all of you to love the one that you love, and try to appreciate the other actors and actresses, would you? (>I think they quarrelling in this site over the actors and actresses, but I don't know what was the problem. Does any of you know?)
Auntie feels also deep regrets that Alec didn't sing in the HZGG's music album (>I don't know what is the title of this album). When the film was filming in Beijing, auntie went to Beijing and decided to let Jie and Ruby to sing the song in the end of the film. And at the same time I invited Alec to sing too, hoping that he could sing a song with Vicki and we could have two songs in the end of film and one for the first part and the other for the second part. Alec was very excited about it, he wanted to sing very much. But, Alec has his manager, my proposal was rejected by his manager. His manager said they had a whole plan for Alec, they didn't want Alec share just one part of a whole album. So this album lacks of Alec. I know all of you feel sad about it, auntie feels very sad about it too.
Everyone appreciated the performance of Alec in HZGG. We all know that. Alec was a trained actor, it is not easy that he could act so well. (>here, I didn't translate word by word, because it is difficult). Auntie adores him very much. (>she used actually two 'very'). Next time when I'm going to another film I'm going to use him so long as he is available. In HZGG, although Alec performs a prince, but since he is several years younger than Erkang, and considered Erkang as a older brother, he couldn't behave as prince in front of Erkang. Only such kind of acting will make Yongqi lovely. I hope all of you support him, and encourage him. Don't compare actors with each other when you watched the film. Otherwise, we will lose a lot of entertainment during watching film.
Those who love Ruby have known the "affair of changing actress" at last. I have concealed this secret for two years, and I had never revealed to the media. I didn't suppose that Ruby told by herself. Now, all of you understand more that we have to overcome all sorts of problem during filming a film. The HZGG you watched now is the one that we finished by overcoming all the difficulties. It is not an easy task. Of course, HZGG is still not a perfect one. But, I think everyone of us had tried our best. So did I.
Recently, auntie is busy with the "redecorating" of HZGG2. Thinking about it is going to be finished soon, auntie has already felt sad about it now. I felt sorry and lost about it. (the last part has nothing to do with the HZGG).
The second letter: Aug.13 99
Dear everyone?
It has been a while that I didn't come here to talk to you. Thanks to all of you who sent your concerning and good wishes to me and Ping (her husband). My eyes is on recovering path now after I got treatments from two famous doctors, now they should be OK. And the operation of Ping was a succeeding one, and he is also in recovering. Thanks to ?,(she wrote many names, I won't mention them here. And she urged everyone who uses PC everyday to take care of the eyes. She is a great lady!)
Recently, a lot of news turns up. One is about that the hearing in court of Vicki, one is about Alec announced that he won't pair up with Vicki again in the future, one is about whether their is going to film HZGG 3 or not, one is about my new films will only use Vicki and Alec in the future, and more? I think, all of you must be confused by all these news, actually, I'm confused too. However, I can certainly tell you all that as long as I'm going to have new film, Vicki, Alec, Ruby and Jie will always be my first choices. So I ask all of you not to guessing and worrying anymore. You see, am I trying to untie the knot in Alec's heart (I don't know how to translate the word "Xin(1) Jie(3)"). Presently, the possibility of filming HZGG3 is very low. The main problem is myself. I feel that I'm kind of tired of writing the same characters again. For these days, auntie is kind of lazy. So all of you please don't be anxious, let auntie have enough rest, OK?
I know many of you who love HZGG couldn't let it og, neither could I. Maybe someday, auntie will continue this novel, continue the story about Qinger and Xiaojian, the mystery about whether Yongqi was alive or dead later, and the story of the marriage of Erkang and Ziwei and a lot of other things. It seems to have a lot more to write after I think it over.
(The last paragraph, she talked about she was happy that many from HK joining the discussion in this site. I just won't translate it.)
The last letter (dated Jun.28 99)she said about how she was upset about that the fans quarrelling in the site, nothing about the person that we are concerned. So I think I just drop the third letter.
YuPen's words:
"Huan Zhu Ge Ge~{!&~}s~{!(~} response was very good, which contributed to my busy workload. For example, the film, ~{!'~}Biao Mei Ji Xiang,~{!(~} was the result of the ~{!'~}Huan Zhu effect.~{!(~} Although the plot had nothing to do with HZGG, but with Vicki and I as a pair made it obvious.
When ~{!'~}Biao Mei Ji Xiang~{!(~} first aired in Hong Kong, the media asked me if I had any hopes. I said I didn~{!&~}t think it would do well, because it was a low-budget show. The plot was a very simple love story, so it might not fit the taste of Hong Kong people. When HZGG first aired in Hong Kong, it got an unanticipated type of response. Couldn~{!&~}t believe that ~{!'~}Biao Mei Ji Xiang~{!(~} likewise got a favorable result, which made me very surprised and happy! But regardless of the result, I was very happy while filming this show. Vicki and I already knew each other well, and I was used to working in China. Compared to the outfit I had to wear in HZGG, this modern-day show was much more relaxing!
The ~{!'~}Huan Zhe effect~{!(~} not only affected other shows, the most direct effect was the rise of a sequel. Sequels usually meant that the first chapter did well, so there was more pressure on the actors in the second chapter. And I am sure that I~{!&~}m not the only one who felt this way, other actors like Vicki and Ruby would feel the same way. So we took away all our silliness in the past and seriously performed. During filming, the weather was extremely cold, and the studio didn~{!&~}t have any heaters. But everyone fought with his/her emotions. We cried when we needed to cry. We laughed when we needed to laugh. There was no faking it. We had the experience of working together in the first chapter, so it was quite easy working again.
Our efforts did not go unnoticed. The second part to HZGG was likewise popular. This allowed the characters in the show to become well-known actors. In addition, the popularity was not limited to China, Taiwan, or Hong Kong, it included all the places with Chinese. I finally understood that a TV show~{!&~}s popularity could spread easily. I also knew that the downside to my career has finally ended.

People to keep him company, Su Yupeng will not be lonely
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
(I simply cannot understand this headline)
QSSYMM will be getting their permits come the middle of April. These few days, all the actors involved in QSSYMM are busy preparing to go to Shanghai for the filming. Lin Xinru is preparing to go to England these couple of days to film her autobiography. Zhao Wei is in Australia for a vacation. Su Yupeng is in Taipei while Leo Ku is in HK. All of them would probably fly into China around the 12th to prepare for the filming of QSSYMM.
QSSYMM's production crew will be arriving on the 10th to prepare for the filming session. The actors will be arriving around the 12th and filming will start when they get their permits. Su Yupeng groans at the thought of staying in Shanghai for five boring months. Su Yupeng has already decided to bring his computer for company. He will surf the web, communicate with his friends via the e-mail and keep in contact with the outside world to alleviate his boredom (umm...these are all in this reporter's words -- Alec said in his message i.am/yupeng that he would definitely bring his computer or he will be bored).
The next paragraph is on Ruby going to England to take photographs for her autobiography.
The last paragraph is on Zhao Wei...she is currently in HK promoting "Xia Nu Chuang Tian Guan" (the one with Nicky Wu). She is thinking of going down to Australia for a short vacation.
Both Ruby and Vicki will be heading to Shanghai from their respective destinations (England and Australia).

You do know that YuPen, Zhao Wei, Ruby Lin, and Leo Gu is starring in Xin Yaou's "new" serie, Yin Yu Men Men (or Qing Shen Shen, Yu Meng Meng), right? The filming starts in April in Shang Hai. (YuPen & Vicki's fan: Start Praying! ^_^)
Qiong Yao's newest drama serial "Qing Shen Shen, Yu Meng Meng" (YYMM -- old title) retains the old cast of HZGG. But to give viewers a whole new different feel, she changed the entire story. The story is not only a simple literary work but also one that focuses on themes like kinship, love, martial arts and other elements of that period's (1930s) action work.
QSSYMM's (new acronym now...grin!) main protagonists are similar to HZGG. The story revolves two sisters' lives and their reactions to the many types of love (love, family, and friends...) and this is all set in 1930s Shanghai.
In the show, the two sisters have a different mother and Ruby is acting as the pitiable Ruping. In the original YYMM, she actually dies but after QY's careful changing of the script, Ruping does not die and QY has planned an ending that the viewers are not going to expect (oooh!! Suspense! -- I thought she was gonna end up with Alec...hmmm...)
Zhao Wei will be acting as for the strong-headed and filled with hatred Yiping. And the guy who enthralls both sisters will be acted by Leo Ku (sorry...people! grin!). It is believed that this will bring a lot of surprises to the viewers (disappointments or surprises? I guess we will have to wait and see, eh?)
Ah...we must also not forget Wu Ah Ge, Su Yupeng's part. He will be acting as Lin Fei (sorry! This is all that is mentioned about Alec).
As for Zhang Tie Lin (Qianlong) and Dai? Chun Zi (too lazy to look up that word in the dictionary but she is the Empress in HZGG) act as the two sisters' respective parents (remember Yiping and Ruping do not stay together).
As for Zhou Jie (Er Kang) will be making a guest appearance toward the later half of the show.

3/7/2000-As most of you know, the movie, "Big Winner"starring YuPen, Ruby Lin and Nicholas Xia came out at the same time as "The Duel" starring Andy Liu and Zhao Wei. Here are the results of the box office plus some people's opinion about these two movies. I don't know which side to be happy for as I love both Zhao Wei and YuPen!
According to HK box office sales, The Duel is quite successful, making around HK$20 million whereas The Winner turns out to be the biggest loser at the box office making around HK7 -8 million only. Producers blamed pirated VCDs, but The Duel also has lots of pirated VCDs too. Reviews blamed it on the poor script and outdated (80s style) method of filming of The Winner.
2/5/2000- In the first day of direct competition between the six Lunar(dragon year) New Year movies: THE DUEL, 2000 A.D., TOKYO RAIDERS, WINNER TAKES ALL, TOY STORY 2, and Leonardo Dicaprio's THE BEACH, THE DUEL seems to be the winner. Yesterday by 2:30 pm, THE DUEL, starring Ekin Cheng Yi-Kin and Andy Lau Tak-Wah (top left, top centre), already took in HK$200,000. The movie was expected to take in HK$2 million by days end. The other new release Aaron Kwok Fu-Sing's 2000 A.D. (top right) did not do as well. However, the reason for that is because of a problem with its distributor. A lack of screens means that the film is still in limited and not wide release in Hong Kong theatres. TOKYO RAIDERS (bottom left) is still doing good business as broke the HK$10 million mark in only five days. As for ALL FOR THE WINNER, starring Sam Hui Kwoon-Kit and brother Ricky Hui Kwoon-Ying (bottom centre), audience response to the film is still lukewarm. In fact, THE DUEL took in more by 2:30 pm yesterday than ALL FOR THE WINNER took in on its first day.
With the success of TOKYO RAIDERS, head of Golden Harvest Raymond Chow Man-Wai (left) was in a happy mood yesterday at a Golden Harvest event. Chow praised the work of HK Customs shutting down vendors of pirated movies. With the prospect of the most successful Lunar New Year movie season in recent memory likely, Chow believes that the Hong Kong film industry has weathered the crisis of the past two years and is now on the rebound. Chow points out: "Andy Lau Tak-Wah is putting in a heavy investment with his Tin Mok company. That shows that the Hong Kong film industry is united and will work hard. Hong Kong films will not die!"
2/13-14/2000
MOVIE GROSS (HK$) 1ST DAY IN RELEASE
TOKYO RAIDERS $18,716,106 11
TOY STORY 2 $11,956,633 5
THE DUEL $9,363,386 5
2000 A.D $6,673, 208 5
POKEMON 3,595,235 5
WINNER TAKES ALL $5,589,501 10
NOT ONE LESS $2,777,589 68
THE BEACH $2,519,335 5
When asked about the relatively poor performance of WINNER TAKES ALL, producer Raymond Wong Bak-Ming said: "I am somewhat disappointed. Since this is a family movie made for all ages, perhaps it is being hurt by piracy. However, at least I can take solace in the fact that the gross is better than FASCINATION AMOUR from last year. It looks like the movie will break HK$10 million."
In Singapore, the trend is the same as TOKYO RAIDERS is outgrossing THE DUEL. Speculation as to why centres on the impressive ad campaign for TOKYO RAIDERS compared to the rush THE DUEL was under to make it to screens on time for the Lunar New Year.
So that's the results! Big Winner definity wasn't the winner this time. But I think it has more to do with the boring script than the actors/actresses acting skill.
As for The Duel, I am happy for Zhao Wei and hope that this movie will show all those critics who dare critize her that she can't act anyone but the Swallow.
